Maintenance of Gemstone
Maintenance of ruby and sapphire jewelry:
1. Do not wear ruby and sapphire jewelry in sports or when doing rough work, to avoid collisions that may cause irreparable damages.
2. Do not put ruby and sapphire jewelry randomly in a drawer or a jewelry box together with other jewelry, because gemstones and metals have different hardness; the mutual frictions can cause abrasions.
3. When wearing ruby and sapphire jewelry, it is necessary to check it once a month; if the inlays have become loose, repair it promptly.
4. The same as other gems, when being stained with human sebum and sweat, ruby and sapphire can lose the luster. Therefore, if you wear it regularly, it is advisable to have it cleaned once a month.
Cleaning of ruby and sapphire jewelry:
1. The easiest way is to use mild soap water and a soft brush to clean it.
2. After cleaning the jewelry, place it on a lint-free towel to have it air dried.
3. You may use a wax-free dental floss or a toothpick to clear the dirt on the gem and between the support claws.
4. Never use bleach to clean it, as the chlorine in bleach will cause pit marks on the surface of alloy, decompose the alloy, and even erode the welding parts.
5. It is forbidden to use detergents, cleaning detergents and toothpaste containing abrasives.
6. Never put it inside detergents or acids.
